Last week saw one of the most appalling attacks on American democracy in over 150 years. Far right extremists attacked the Capitol and our democracy to try and overturn a free and fair election — a riot that Trump incited and refused to stop.

This isn’t a new tactic from Trump. From Charlottesville to telling Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by,” he’s refused to denounce his most dangerous and violent supporters. But if we don’t hold him accountable, it sends a message to Trump and other wannabe dictators that they can get away with inciting violence.
