People For Member, Far-right members of Congress whose reckless rhetoric and attacks on the legitimate results of the 2020 election helped fuel the mob that ultimately breached the U.S Capitol in the January 6 coup attempt should all resign from office immediately. But we know they won’t resign. A few key members of each chamber must be held to special account for their leading roles in attempting to overturn a free and fair election: Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, and House Republican leaders, Rep. Kevin McCarthy and Rep. Steve Scalise. Sign the petition NOW to demand Congress censure Cruz, Hawley, McCarthy, and Scalise! >> Cruz and Hawley were the Senate ringleaders, and in the House, Minority Leader McCarthy and Minority Whip Scalise utterly betrayed their oaths of office and abused their leadership positions by encouraging scores of members of their caucus to reject the Electoral College results. The actions and rhetoric of all four of these individuals were antithetical to our democratic system of government and helped stoke the mob insurrection at the Capitol on January 6, which resulted in at least five deaths. It is unacceptable for them to continue without official consequences. Hawley and Cruz, both of whom have clear presidential ambitions, sent out fundraising emails while the deadly violence was playing out – revealing the naked ambition and self-interest that motivated their actions. Since they do not have the decency to resign, then at a minimum, these four must face official censure by their respective chambers. SIGN NOW to demand that both the Senate and House censure Cruz, Hawley, McCarthy, and Scalise! >> If they are allowed to continue on in their official and leadership roles without recrimination, it will just further enable their anti-democratic behavior and give tacit permission to other elected officials to continue in their footsteps. We cannot let that happen. Congress must preserve our democracy, and the first step to doing so is making sure that everyone involved in enabling the assault on the Capitol faces the consequences of their actions. In solidarity, Sarah, People For the American Way
