Trump and other Republicans have been working for years to delegitimize the 2020 election: asserting that Trump could only lose if the election were “stolen;” lying about the legitimacy of mail-in ballots; attempting to convince Georgia’s secretary of state to “find” Trump votes that hadn’t been cast; and finally, last Wednesday, telling the mob at that morning’s rally to “march to the Capitol.”

There is a term for that, and that term is sedition.

That very mob followed Trump’s order and marched to the Capitol, where they stormed the building in which the entire House and Senate and Pence were certifying the electoral college votes, seeking to demand under threat of violence that they throw out those votes and hand the election to Trump.

There is a term for that, and that term is insurrection.

It is imperative that Congress impeach Trump for sedition for fomenting an insurrection against our government.

Congress must assert its responsibility to check the president when he acts outside the law and must firmly defend the validity of the election results. Trump’s followers won’t simply disappear, and they, as well as Trump, must be directly confronted with the truth. If the Senate convicts Trump in an impeachment trial, a simple majority can then vote to bar him from seeking federal office again, eliminating a future threat to our democracy.

Congress must also hold accountable its members who helped spread dangerous lies and supported Trump’s abuse of power by doing his bidding when he refused to accept electoral defeat. Republican representatives and senators who lied about the legitimacy of the election, supported specious, unfounded objections to certification of the election results, and are still defending Trump from accountability share responsibility for sedition.

Call your Members of Congress and tell them ([link removed][UNIQID]) : Impeach Trump and expel and censure seditionist Members of Congress.

Come join our Working Groups!

Our State and Local Working Group is proud to deliver our ADEM guide to you in time for the election. We are now forming our legislative priorities to achieve progressive change in California and San Francisco. If you’d like to join, come to a General Meeting or one of our Working Group meetings (see below)!

Our Federal Working Group is also pivoting to the post-2020 landscape of a Democratic trifecta in the House, Senate, and White House. Over the coming year, our focus will be undoing the damage of the last four years and enacting badly-needed progressive reforms. If you’d like to join, come to a General Meeting or one of our Working Group meetings!

We’d welcome your participation.
