I remain convinced that Donald Trump is a threat to our country and our democracy. His behavior time and again has spread lies and put lives in danger.

Today, I am planning to vote for impeachment. It saddens me that this step is necessary so close to the end of his term. But the reality is we can't trust Trump even for the few days that remain.

When I entered Congress I never expected to have to make this decision. But I took an oath to provide a check and balance on the president and to preserve and protect the Constitution of the United States. This president has incited violence and supported insurrection, so I am fulfilling my oath and holding him accountable.

Some in Congress say that impeachment is "divisive." I say that the only way we will heal as a nation is with full accountability. We can't sweep this under the rug - if we do, we may see more attempted coups. We must show forcefully that anyone who incites violence and sedition, no matter how powerful, will see consequences.
