Watching a Reichstag Fire Decree type of response to the events at the Capitol on January 6 should give us pause. Totalitarians have always used crises to advance their agendas, and those leading the new Democrat Party have histories that affirm their authoritarian credibility. They might not be overtly hearkening back to 1930s Germany, but they certainly are enamored with the modern Chinese social credit system where everything is controlled: whom you talk to, where you go, and whether you are "approved" for any type of public activity.
