ACLU Supporter, the House plans to vote on impeachment today and we need you with us in an urgent push to hold the president accountable: Please send a message to your representative to impeach Trump now. <[link removed]>

With calls for further violence by pro-Trump agitators in the coming days, we must reckon with the truth now: Trump has obstructed the peaceful transition of power, engaged in repeated lies, illegal political pressure, frivolous litigation, and has stoked a mob to that end – a mob blatantly promoting white supremacy. There must be recourse. Take action in support of impeachment now. <[link removed]>

Friend –

In a unanimous decision Sunday night, the ACLU's national board of directors voted to call for the impeachment of President Donald Trump, and we are asking you to join us in action. <[link removed]>

What occurred at the U.S. Capitol last Wednesday was an unruly mob's blatant attempt to undermine and obstruct the certification results of the 2020 presidential election – and Trump encouraged these actions.

It has been four years of Trump's racist dog whistles leading to this moment and now there's too much at stake for our country to ignore the reality.

The role the president played on January 6 – as well as his continued efforts to undermine the results of the election – makes it clear that the full course of justice must be pursued to hold this man accountable.

For his unconstitutional attempts to subvert our nation's democracy, the ACLU is calling for Congress to vote for impeachment immediately. Please join us and send an urgent message to your U.S. House representative. <[link removed]>

Trump's remarks around last Wednesday's events are part of a much broader pattern of misconduct – plainly designed to upend a free and fair election merely because he lost. He has:

* Repeatedly made knowingly false statements about voter fraud and improprieties designed to undermine the legitimacy of the election results, including in a series of frivolous lawsuits, without evidence to support the claims

* Pressured election officials in several states, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Georgia, to interfere with the results of the election, including a January 2 taped phone call

* Sought to disenfranchise people of color by targeting many of these efforts at counties and jurisdictions with predominantly Black or Brown populations

* Directed Vice President Pence to block Congress's certification of the Electoral College results, where the Vice President had neither the authority nor the grounds to do so

* Urged an unruly mob to riot at the United States Capitol on January 6, in an effort to prevent the certification of the Electoral College results and to intimidate members of Congress from carrying out their constitutional duties

ACLU Supporter, our democracy rests on a commitment by representatives to let the people decide the outcome of our elections. That is why these unprecedented acts by Trump clearly pose a grave and imminent threat to not just civil liberties – but to those core foundations of our Republic.

Enough is enough. Trump must be held to account. Send a message to Congress and tell them to ensure the safety of our democracy: Vote to impeach Trump now. <[link removed]>
