Last week, I was asked if I believed that we should begin impeachment proceedings.  

My answer was, "Yes."

Over the past few days, it has become even more apparent that this must be done.
Impeachment is something to be used only in the gravest of circumstances. Unfortunately, Donald Trump’s actions have necessitated this. I stand with Nancy Pelosi, House Democrats, and the American people as they begin impeachment proceedings.

For far too long, Donald Trump has abused his power and disregarded the rule of law. After each revelation, it is difficult to imagine falling any lower, and yet in what seems like no time at all we find ourselves face-to-face with another, more depraved situation. The latest example of inviting yet another foreign government to interfere with our election, while subsequently threatening to withhold vital aide is abhorrent.

I look forward to a fair process that can clarify the extent to which Donald Trump has broken his oath of office and his commitment to the people of this great country. Following this process, I sincerely hope that members of the US Senate provide a fair verdict based on facts and evidence, rather than politics.

This will not be easy. In fact, it will be one of the most difficult things we as Americans can go through, which is why it is a last resort. However, I believe in the strength of this country and the strength of my fellow Americans to stand together.
