"The climate crisis is deeply intertwined with the crisis of our democracy and white supremacy."

Friend,
Since Wednesday's attempted coup, we've taken a step back from social media and our email program. Like so many others, we were horrified and infuriated by what we saw: a right-wing mob, egged on by the president, attempting to overturn the result of an American election.
But we're emerging bold and clear-eyed—and we hope you'll join us. Sign on today to recommit to the fight for justice, democracy, and a clean energy future.

Last week, right-wing extremists destroyed any remaining sense of normalcy. So we're left with the question: How do we emerge?
A few things are true:
- The same villains who are destroying our democracy in the name of white supremacy are behind the destruction of our climate—with communities of color hit first and worst.
- The Venn diagram of disinformation networks that spout lies about voter fraud and those that spout lies about the reality of climate change? It's a perfect circle.
Last week, right-wing extremists destroyed any remaining sense of normalcy. So we're left with the question: How do we emerge?
First, we impeach and remove Donald Trump. Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley must resign or be expelled from Congress—because history shows that, without swift consequences, failed coups often lead to successful coups.
Next, we fight for democracy reform—which, make no mistake, is a climate issue. Eliminating the filibuster, passing a new Voting Rights Act, and granting Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico statehood are clear ways we can both make our democracy stronger and make sure we effectively mobilize against the climate crisis. (And don't forget: If D.C. were a state, its governor could have mobilized its National Guard in response to an attempted coup.) With a Democratic majority in the Senate, this is not just possible but necessary.
Finally, we must act on the level of climate ambition this moment requires. President-elect Biden has a mandate to deliver bold climate action—and the fact that voters sent Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock to the Senate cements that. We won't accept half-measures that don't meet the demands of science.
We will be fighting tooth and nail for justice, for a stronger democracy, and for a clean energy future. Sign on right now to commit to these righteous fights alongside us.
