Yesterday, I told you about House Democrats’ resolution to impeach President Trump for inciting the violent insurrection on the U.S. Capitol last Wednesday. But our efforts to remove this dangerous man from office don’t stop there.

Tonight, I’m joining my Democratic colleagues in the House to vote on a resolution calling on Vice President Mike Pence to do the right thing and exercise the 25th Amendment.

Under this constitutional amendment, the Vice President and a majority of the Cabinet have the power to determine the president unfit to serve and unable to carry out the duties of being president. If they make that decision, Trump will be removed from office immediately and his responsibilities will be transferred to the Vice President, who will serve as Acting President until Joe Biden is sworn into office on January 20th.

Democrats meant it when we said we would do everything in our power to hold Trump accountable for his violent mob on the Capitol, remove him from office and stop him from causing more harm to the people and our democracy. It’s a matter of national security at this point.

Earlier today, Trump visited Alamo, Texas. His very presence may recklessly incite his supporters to make a bloody last stand. Vice President Pence and the Cabinet must invoke the 25th Amendment, NOW. That's why we need to rapidly build pressure on both sides of the aisle to make this happen.
