Dear Friends,
We know everyone is shocked and heartbroken by the lawlessness and violence that occurred at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, that took lives and injured others. We mourn with the families of the victims and join in condemning all violence. Most importantly, we join our brothers and sisters in prayer for healing for our nation.
Eagle Forum has repeatedly condemned and demanded justice for the victims of the violence that has plagued our cities over the past year. And, although we vehemently disagree with the Marxist underpinnings and divisive rhetoric of the Black Lives Matter organization, we have expressed support for those peaceful demonstrators opposing racism whose rightful First Amendment expression was hijacked by lawless rioters and anarchist thugs.
We understand that an attack on the U.S. Capitol during a joint session of Congress to certify the votes of the Electoral College triggers some of the highest national security implications imaginable, so we know that this attack necessitates a stronger response.
However, as Margaret Thatcher declared in response to IRA terrorist action in 1981, “There is no such thing as political murder, political bombing or political violence. There is only criminal murder, criminal bombing, and criminal violence.”
Violence can never be tolerated; nor can the acts of a lawless few be used to silence the lawful political speech of the peaceful.
On behalf of Eagle Forum and the thousands of families we represent throughout the country, we urge our friends on both sides of the political aisle to focus on seeking the truth and punishing directly lawless behavior; and we condemn all efforts to exploit this act of violence by using it to vilify, threaten and censor lawful Americans who support President Trump, and who have expressed concerns about the integrity of the 2020 election.
As we continue to pray for healing, oppose violence, and fight oppression and censorship, in the coming days we will bring you information directly from original sources to enable you to stay engaged in the battle to keep America great by advocating for policies that keep her good.
Our prayer for each of you is that you experience the peace that only comes through our Lord Jesus Christ, who gives us a peace the world cannot give!
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27 NIV
Faithfully,
The Eagle Forum Board of Directors
