Team, only moments after Donald Trump incited a deadly assault on our Capitol, many of my Republican colleagues still refused to simply wear a damn mask while we sheltered in a crowded room during a pandemic — and they even had the gall to mock those who offered them one.

Now I'm among the Members of Congress who have tested positive for COVID-19.

How many more will fall ill because of Republicans' reckless and selfish behavior? I've had enough. Any member of Congress who refuses to wear a mask should be fully held accountable for endangering our lives because of their selfish idiocy.

I'm calling for any member who refuses to wear a mask in the Capitol to be fined and immediately removed from the floor by the Sergeant at Arms. Will you add your name next to mine if you agree?

While I am isolating per the Capitol Physician's instructions, I will continue to work as hard as I can because bold action to address our country's overlapping crises cannot wait. I share the outrage and anger of my constituents and those across this country who have watched Donald Trump fail to combat this raging pandemic and refuse to take care of Americans who are suffering, dying, and devastated.

Masks are not a political statement. Research demonstrates that wearing a face mask or face covering reduces the spread of respiratory viruses.

Anyone entrusted with the job of representing their community in Congress should do everything in their power to keep their constituents and colleagues safe — especially as our country is averaging more than 3,000 COVID-19 deaths a day over the past week. If they refuse, they must face consequences.

Add your name in support of my call for the Sergeant at Arms to immediately remove and fine any member of Congress who refuses to wear a mask.
