White supremacy has a playbook -- and for the past four years, Donald Trump emboldened the very worst of America and set the stage for the attacks against our Democracy on January 6.
Despite electing the most diverse Congress in our nation’s history, our governing systems are rooted in racism. And while leaders and people across the country expressed their shock by claiming “this is not who we are,” The Washington Post stated this:
“This is not ‘un-American’ or alien to who we are -- it is the fruit of everything we have ignored since Reconstruction was overthrown in South Carolina in 1876. ... We cannot assume that this failed putsch will be the end of the violent attempt to replace democracy -- once again -- with white power. And we cannot support them with our silence.”
We MUST move forward to a future that prioritizes communities that have been stifled -- and we’re confident that President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will lead this charge with the support of our new Democratic Congress.
