We have to ensure real accountability for those who’ve vowed to destroy American democracy, and that starts with Donald Trump

Indivisibles,

As the political landscape evolves after last week’s insurrection, we’re once again doing what we do best: shifting into rapid-response mode.

As with all best-laid plans, we had all kinds of ideas about how we’d be spending these first few weeks of January.1 While none of those things are dropping off our radar, we’re now reorganizing our immediate strategies around our most important call to action -- impeaching Donald Trump. (Again.)

This is exactly what our movement is great at: we leapt into action to save the Affordable Care Act and impeach Trump (the first time), and we know how to do it again. All that work isn’t free, though -- we spend tens of thousands of dollars, from running ads to powering websites to developing graphics to providing call tools to activists. It all adds up and as our movement grows, so do the costs.

Grassroots engagement from Indivisibles all around the country is what allows us to win, and that doesn’t only mean things like making calls or attending events. To stay accountable to the people, we get our funding from the people -- which means we rely on you to make rapid response moments like this possible all year long. Can you donate $10 to power our next impeachment effort, fund all our plans for 2021, and ensure we have the resources to win impeachment and every campaign to come?

As we continue processing last week’s events and monitoring developments over the next few weeks, we wish we could say we were surprised. While the exact nature of the insurrection might not have been on our 2021 bingo card, the truth is that Indivisibles have known all along that this is where Trump and the GOP’s dangerous rhetoric was leading -- and that Donald Trump himself was just an avatar for the much deeper far-right sentiments that were brewing.

Our big plans for 2021 -- major democracy reform and all the progressive policies it’ll enable -- aren’t going anywhere. But for any of it to last, we have to ensure real accountability for those who’ve vowed to destroy American democracy, and that starts with Donald Trump. Our movement has what it takes to see these fights through to the end. Thanks for staying with us -- and if you're looking for another way to build pressure, click here to call your members of Congress and ask them to take action!

In solidarity,
Indivisible Team

1 Some examples: launching and promoting our newest Indivisible Guide, supporting a week of action to start out the next legislative session strong, coordinating plans to push for strong action during the first 100 days of the new administration, even more mundane things like meetings, closing out and debriefing our 2020 programs...the list goes on!
