Hi,
Today, EARTHDAY.ORG begins the 100-day countdown to Earth Day,
observed each year on April 22. Now in its 51st year, Earth
Day is the world’s largest recruiter to the environmental
movement. Over a billion people in 192 countries participate
in Earth Day, making it the world’s most widely observed civic
event.
This year, Earth Day falls at a time of both exceptional danger and
exceptional opportunity. The danger is that society may fall prey to
the natural human drive to return to business as usual. The
opportunity is to declare Earth Day 2021 a global day of recommitment
to save the planet and its people, and open a revolutionary new era of
healing, restoration, learning, and unity.
The current pandemic illustrates with painful clarity that the
planet faces two crises, and they are connected: global environmental
degradation and its link to human health and survival. EARTHDAY.ORG’s
goal is to build global support for climate restoration, climate
education, and a sustainable green economy, so the world can emerge
from the pandemic stronger, smarter, and more secure.
EARTHDAY.ORG’s 2021 campaign, Restore Our Earth,
coincides with the United Nation’s Decade on Ecosystem Restoration and
is a call to action to conserve and restore our environment using
natural solutions, technology, education, and civic action.
EARTHDAY.ORG wants to take advantage of the arrival of the new
administration in the U.S. to promote policies that advance
regenerative agriculture, ecosystem restoration, reforestation, and to
build a new generation of climate educated and civically engaged
citizens. Globally, EARTHDAY.ORG’s goal is to create a green
jobs ready workforce and a green consumer movement fueled by
sustainable entrepreneurship and to drive justice and inclusion so
that all countries can share in safety and prosperity.
These ambitious objectives include supporting massive reforestation
projects, reforming global agriculture, creating opportunities to
promote citizen science, and inspiring worldwide volunteer engagement.
Through these achievements, EARTHDAY.ORG can form a realistic basis
for optimism about our collective future.
In 100 days, join EARTHDAY.ORG and millions of
participants around the world to take action on April
22nd.
