75% OF AMERICANS WORRY ABOUT VIOLENT DOMESTIC EXTREMISM

Survey reveals broad support for more action from government and social media companies
Dear John,
Following the seditious attack at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday, Americans are highly concerned about the threat of future violent extremism,

according to a survey released today by ADL.
Unequivocally, Americans want the government to do more to address violent domestic extremism and most Americans now see the direct connection between the dangerous rhetoric from President Trump, others on the far right, and extremist groups and the horrifying violence at our nation’s Capitol.

The survey also found that 61% of respondents believe that social media companies like Facebook and Twitter are at least somewhat responsible. We applaud mainstream social media companies for removing President Trump from their platforms in recent days, but there is more work to be done to stop the widespread hate and extremism.

The Dangers of Disinformation can help you talk with your family about the dangers of “false” news and disinformation by examining the January 6 U.S. Capitol invasion and the events leading up to it.
- Over the weekend, Parler, a social media site frequented by right-wing extremists, went offline after Amazon Web Services, the Apple App store and Google Play took steps against the platform for violating their terms of service. Ahead of the shutdown, angry extremists used the site to post threats and conspiracy theories and steer supporters to other fringe platforms. Read more about the
