A breaking news alert

Last week’s deadly insurrection was not the end, John. The fact that the attempted coup failed and that at least five people were killed, did nothing to discourage pro-Trump rioters and far-right extremists. Instead, it has had the opposite effect.

Armed extremists are doubling down on the attacks on our democracy and planning armed protests in all 50 states, according to an FBI warning. If these plans aren’t taken seriously, more lives will be lost.

Right now, we are fighting in the Washington state legislature and working with allies in other states to reject intimidation with openly-carried firearms and enact other vital gun responsibility measures. Donate today to fund this timely, lifesaving work.

Experts report that far-right extremist groups like the Proud Boys and the Three Percenters are using last Wednesday’s attack to recruit new members and coordinate demonstrations at state houses across the country.

Washington D.C.’s strong gun safety laws prevented many in the mob from showing up armed. Just imagine how much more devastating the day could have been if the group at the U.S. Capitol was armed as heavily as the group that showed up at the Michigan State Capitol this spring.

Many states—including Washington—don’t have those same protections in place. That means there’s nothing stopping the extremists planning protests from openly-carrying military-grade weapons. And we know all too well that when guns are involved, disagreement or even just confusion, can turn deadly in the blink of an eye.

We are working tirelessly to reject armed intimidation and extremism and hold our elected officials accountable. But we’ve never faced opposition that is this energized. We need your help to protect our democratic institutions from armed extremism.

Thank you, Renée
