2021 A Fresh Start 2021 A ROUGH START JANUARY 2021 It has been a rough start to the new year! The pandemic rages on. We witnessed an assault on our democracy. Wolves were officially delisted. While Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota have publicly stated there will not be a wolf hunting/trapping season in 2020, the situation is vastly different in South Dakota. Effective 1/4/2021, trappers, sportsmen and women, landowners and livestock producers have the ability to kill gray wolves across the state, with a predator/varmint license. South Dakota Fish, Game and Parks has made it clear. WOLVES ARE NOT WELCOME IN THE STATE NEW BEGINNINGS With a new administration, there is hope for wildlife and the habitat they need to survive. President Elect Biden has vowed to make Climate Change a top priority and restore dismantled environmental protections. Whether or not the wolf delisting rule can be reversed remains to be seen. Regardless, lawsuits challenging delisting are expected to be filed very soon. LEGEND OF LAMAR VALLEY In the Fall of 2012, one of the most famous wolves, affectionately known as "06" was shot by a trophy hunter 16 miles outside of Yellowstone National Park. "06" was born in the Agate Creek Pack in 2006; left at age three to form the Lamar Canyon Pack where she reigned as the alpha female for one of the more visible packs in Yellowstone National Park. "06" had a keen sense for avoiding rival packs and was able to bring down elk by herself. She was unusually large for a female, about 100 pounds, and unusually powerful but could not tell the difference between a spotting scope used by her admirers and the spotting scope of a rifle that took her life. To honor "06", we have designed the Legend of Lamar Valley shirt. These shirts, which are available in a variety of colors, sizes and styles will be available until January 19th. ORDER YOURS TODAY The image used on our shirts was inspired by this photo taken by famed photographer, Jimmy Jones, who graciously allowed us to use this image for our first fundraiser of 2021.
