Hi John,
September 30 marks the end of the third financial quarter of 2019 – but it also means I have just over 12 months until this seat is up for grabs again.
Let me explain exactly why my race is going to be so difficult and then tell you why NOW is the time to show your support:
- The GOP views this seat as the only vulnerable federal seat in Connecticut. My district is almost a perfect 50/50 split. It contains many of the reddest areas of the state, making this race a battle in every election.
The fact that I am a freshman only adds fuel to the fire. In other words, the GOP is going to dump a TON of money behind any viable candidate running against me. I now have three declared GOP challengers actively working to mobilize – and there are undoubtedly more people out there considering a run… but:
- Strong numbers help deter serious opposition. If we make a strong financial showing early, the opposition is less likely to put substantial resources behind an opponent. They simply will not see enough of an opportunity.
If you send a strong message now, I can continue focusing on doing the job you sent me to Washington to do, rather than focusing on fighting back potential opponents.
So, NOW is the time to send a strong message that we are not going anywhere. We worked too hard to win this race – and to flip the House – last year. Now is the time to work just as hard to keep both.
