Tomorrow, the House of Representatives will vote on the impeachment of President Donald Trump over his incitement of a violent attack against the citadel of our democracy, the U.S. Capitol.

This somber moment calls for unity to defend our Constitution and hold this president accountable for these unprecedented, seditious actions.

Donald Trump sold his supporters a Big Lie about the outcome of our election -- and then incited them to attack the U.S. Capitol over that lie. After the violence he told the attackers he 'loved them' and 'they were special' as he asked them to go home. The president's behavior is a dagger pointed at the heart of our democracy. It cannot go unpunished.

These are dark times. Our democracy has been weakened by the rampant lies and conspiracy theories Trump and his enablers have fueled and promoted.

We must make sure this never happens again. To do that we need to tell the truth and return to a dialogue guided by facts.
