Happy New Year! Following our December 2020 advice to Government on the Sixth Carbon Budget, we are pleased to share details of a new series of webinars focused on the delivery of Net Zero as part of the UK’s contribution to stopping global warming. These are all exciting events with a great selection of speakers and we hope you can join them.

14 January | The UK’s international contribution – the Sixth Carbon Budget and Net Zero | link to register ([link removed])
Find out how and why the Sixth Carbon Budget and the UK’s 2050 Net Zero target represent genuine global ambition to keep global warming to the 1.5⁰C to 2⁰C limit set out in the Paris Agreement. Speakers include: Pete Betts, former EU lead negotiator to the UNFCCC, and CCC members Professor Piers Forster and Professor Corinne Le Quéré.

What are the potential implications of the CCC’s advice on the Sixth Carbon Budget for UK jobs and the wider economy? Chaired by CCC member Paul Johnson with contributions from Hector Pollitt at Cambridge Econometrics, University of Strathclyde’s Professor Karen Turner, Shell’s Mallika Ishwaran.

How to finance the Net Zero transition informed by the CCC’s Expert Advisory Group on Finance. Guest speaker: Nick Robins, Professor in Practice for Sustainable Finance at The Grantham Research Institute.

How to deliver the Net Zero transition in practice - informed by the CCC’s Expert Advisory Group on Policy. Guest speaker: Professor Cameron Hepburn, Director of the Economics of Sustainability Programme, based at the Institute for New Economic Thinking at the Oxford Martin School.

What role does behaviour change play in delivering emissions reductions from housing, agriculture and transport? Contributions from CCC committee member Professor Nick Chater, and the CCC Secretariat.

How can businesses help deliver the UK’s national Net Zero ambition? This session explores the barriers for UK businesses when it comes to supporting the drive to Net Zero. Guest speaker: McKinsey’s Tera Allas CBE.

How can local authorities help to deliver Net Zero? Guest speaker: Marvin Rees, Mayor of Bristol.

03 March | Net Zero: The need for joint action on adaptation | link to register ([link removed])
How action on climate change adaptation can and should complement steps to reduce UK emissions, resulting in multiple benefits.
