Dear John, The results are in! New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (D) is the “winner” of CAGW’s online poll for 2020 Porker of the Year, garnering 32 percent of the vote in a six-way race. Gov. Cuomo earned this dubious award for politicizing and delaying the distribution of new COVID-19 vaccines that will save lives. In November, Gov. Cuomo claimed that the speedy vaccine approval process was driven by “the money and ego” of pharmaceutical companies and President Trump, respectively. He announced that New York would set up its own analysis and review of the vaccine, further delaying its release even though it had already undergone the most rigorous review process in the world for quality, safety, and efficacy. His failure to move quickly in December and January once the vaccine was received has now led to significant delays in vaccinations throughout New York State. CAGW’s Porker of the Year silver medal winner with 27 percent of the vote is House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md..), who was named CAGW’s August Porker of the Month for attempting to force taxpayers to bailout fiscally irresponsible states. The other 2020 Porker of the Year nominees, in order of votes received, were: Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) (13 percent); California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) (13 percent); New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio (D) (8 percent); and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) (6 percent).
