Dear
John,

As debate continues about the meaning and aims of American conservatism, this year's release of "Russell Kirk's Concise Guide to Conservatism" has been a helpful touchstone for those seeking the path of renewal in our cultural milieu. I’d especially like to call to your attention Gerard Mundy’s review in Public Discourse this month, “Russell Kirk’s Guidance on Community and Local Government Is as Necessary As Ever.”

Now, we're pleased to share with you that Kirk Center Senior Fellow Bruce P. Frohnen and Ted V. McAllister have just written "Coming Home: Reclaiming America’s Conservative Soul." This book seeks to bring a renewed coherence to conservatism at a time when we dearly need it.

"[This] is a book of the first importance, an act of cultural recovery that could become for the rising generations what the writings of Russell Kirk and Richard Weaver were for postwar conservatism six decades ago. At the center of of their analysis stands the concept of 'home,' which in their hands becomes a powerful symbol of our most primary and enduring human needs, the need for belonging, stability, rootedness, self-governance, and love. We cannot flourish without them."
- WILFRED M. MCCLAY
Professor Richard Gamble’s review essay, The Work of Local Culture, has just been posted in The University Bookman. We commend this review to you, as well as the recent interview editor Gerald Russello conducted with co-authors Frohnen and McAllister, How Conservatives Can Come Home.

The University Bookman is the nation's oldest conservative review of books, and has reached over 100,000 readers in the last nine months. If you'd like to help sustain The University Bookman you can support our work by simply indicating you'd like your donation to go to The University Bookman in the notes section of the donation page.

Congratulations to Bruce and Ted on the publication of "Coming Home." We hope this important book will find a home on your bookshelf very soon.

Yours,
