Welcome to Tuesday, January 12th, stars and stripes...

** We were attacked last week.
------------------------------------------------------------

We’ve been attacked before: Pearl Harbor, the USS Cole, the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, 9/11.

In the past, when we've been attacked, we came together as a country.

This time it’s different.

This time the attackers were our citizens: elected officials, veterans, police officers.

The attackers waved the American flag as they ransacked America’s Capitol.

The attackers waved a Confederate flag as they ransacked America’s Capitol. This time, and for the first time, a Confederate flag was flown inside the U.S. Capitol.

Five Americans died. Fifteen police officers were hospitalized. More than 50 officers were injured. Another officer took his own life.

** And now we are attacked by questions:
------------------------------------------------------------

How did this happen? Why wasn’t it stopped? Who is responsible? Who deserves punishment? Who deserves justice? Who deserves to be silenced? Who deserves to be heard? How do we keep this from happening again? If “this isn’t America” what is America?

Join us here as we begin to answer these questions. ([link removed])

** GOP Blocks Dems’ Attempt to Pass 25th Amendment Bill
------------------------------------------------------------

Republicans on Monday blocked Democrats’ effort to pass a resolution by unanimous consent calling for Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment ([link removed]) and remove President Donald Trump from office.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) offered the resolution on the floor on behalf of Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in the unsuccessful effort to pass the non-binding bill by unanimous consent.

Rep. Alexander Mooney (R-WV) objected and released a statement to explain:

“Speaker Pelosi should not attempt to adopt a resolution of this magnitude without any debate on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. It is wrong to have sent members of Congress home and then try to adopt without any debate a precedent-setting resolution that could imperil our Republic. The U.S. House must never adopt a resolution that demands the removal of a duly elected president, without any hearings, debate or recorded votes.”

Should the House call for Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment? ([link removed])

** And, in the End…
------------------------------------------------------------

Let's try and remember American exceptionalism....

On this date in 1773, the first public museum in America opened its doors:

The Charleston Museum, in South Carolina, was meant to serve as a "window to the world."

Raise a glass of chamomile to celebrate as it's also National Hot Tea Day,
