Dear Friend,

I met Dianne in early April on a citywide mutual aid call. She was Bed-Stuy Strong. I was South Brooklyn Mutual Aid. We were both tired. Last spring, when our city shut down, it became so drastically apparent that the inequities of our city and its eroded social safety net had left too many New Yorkers vulnerable. All of us on that call knew that even one vulnerable New Yorker was too many.

If I’ve learned anything in 2020, it’s that our communities cannot afford to be on the timeline of what’s “pragmatic.” If we keep at the pace of the status quo, our communities will disappear. We’re feeling that already -- from empty storefronts to empty apartments to many of us (including myself) with empty chairs that were once occupied by beloved family members. This isn’t about what’s “realistic.” We need transformative changes before it’s too late.

That is why I decided to join Dianne’s team as her interim campaign manager, and why I’m proudly Team Dianne. I hope before this midnight filing, that you’ll consider donating at least $20 to support Dianne and her vision for transformative change. [[link removed]]

As someone was on the frontlines of this pandemic, it means a lot to me to say that my mayoral candidate was there alongside me. From distributing fresh groceries to families through mutual aid work, to being at the same protests during the summer, and even facing police brutality at those protests, Dianne was right there for our people during the worst of it.

Knowing her politics -- fighting for social housing, divesting from the police and reinvesting in communities, and reimagining education -- made me realize that we have a real chance to elect a champion for us. I must stress this -- candidates like Dianne are rare -- so often in our political system, those who run are often those who are cherry-picked by the establishment to reinforce control. Dianne is someone we can elect from our community. Someone who has fought and cried alongside us. And someone who will hold us in her heart and bring our power to City Hall.

I’m not throwing away that chance. In order for us to have not just an economic recovery, but a true people’s recovery, we must elect a mayor who will be willing to prioritize people over profits. And that’s Dianne.

Before the 11:59 PM filing deadline tonight, I’m making the final ask on behalf of our campaign, to ask you to join Team Dianne with a donation. If you have already donated, then we’re truly grateful to have you as a part of this movement. And if you don’t have the means to donate but are excited to support Dianne, we see you, and appreciate your love.In community,
Whitney Hu
Interim Campaign Manager, Team Dianne
