On Wednesday of last week the stark realities of white supremacy, systemic racism, and white entitlement were on full display during the insurgency at the Capitol. 

Reports have surfaced of on-duty police officers taking selfies with and moving barricades for the insurgents. The negligent and dangerously underwhelming response at the Capitol Building put our entire country at risk and cost multiple lives.

That's why Congressman Jamaal Bowman (NY-16), has introduced the Congressional Oversight of Unjust Policing Act (COUP) Act. 

This legislation would create a commission to investigate what led to the failed response on Wednesday. The act also calls for investigations into ties between White supremacist groups and U.S. Capitol Police. 

Simply firing the heads of the Capitol Police won't suffice. We demand a detailed investigation and course of action to restore trust and security.

We know the FBI and NYPD both warned the Capitol Police Department of a credible threat of violence prior to the attack unfolding. To ensure this never happens again, a complete top-to-bottom investigation needs to take place immediately.
