Donald Trump has never been worthy of the office he holds.
But his actions last week, inciting an insurrection against the United States Congress, prove that it is too dangerous to allow him to remain in the White House for the duration of his term.
Donald Trump cannot be allowed to control the military. He cannot be allowed access to the nuclear codes. He cannot be given the opportunity to stage another coup.
If Mike Pence will not fulfill his oath to the Constitution -- and his duty to the American people -- and invoke the 25th Amendment, Democrats in the House of Representatives will act and impeach Trump again.
And this time, Senate Republicans must vote to convict.
They saw the proof of Trump's real and present threat to this country with their own eyes. They lived through it, facing threats and the potential for harm when the Capitol was besieged by terrorists. I hope that condemnable experience has had some impact -- I hope that they finally see that Trump cares for no one but himself.
History will judge elected officials who do not act and vote to affirm that a dereliction of duty will not be tolerated in our presidents.
