Friends,
Last week, a violent mob incited by the president stormed the United States capitol. At least five people died, including a U.S. Capitol Police officer who succumbed to injuries sustained defending our Republic from this armed insurrection. Historic property was destroyed. Members of Congress and our staff were forced to hide in our own workplace, fearing for our safety.
The mob was ultimately unsuccessful and Joe Biden was confirmed the victor of the election. But the threat to our democracy is not over, and it will not be over until Donald Trump is removed from office.
The Cabinet should immediately invoke the 25th Amendment to remove the president from office. If they fail to do so, Congress should immediately begin impeachment proceedings.
We must all do our part to make sure this horrible event is remembered for what it really was: an attempted coup. Not a protest.
And we must remove this deranged madman from office before he does even more irreversible damage to our democracy.
The absolute worst thing we can do right now is nothing.
Please, speak up.
Stay safe,
Tammy Duckworth
