Gov. Gianforte plans to appoint Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin to head the Department of Corrections, a man who oversaw Gianforte’s lenient treatment after he assaulted a reporter in 2017.

Gianforte would rather surround himself with yes-men than pick the best people to serve. We need to keep watch on this administration to ensure that they’re doing what’s best for Montana -- not just the Governor.

In 2017, Gootkin let Gianforte drive away from a crime scene, and he’s even donated to his campaign. How can we expect him to adequately and impartially lead the Department of Corrections?
