Our mission and next steps

Dear John,

Throughout the past eight years, we at the Nonhuman Rights Project have stood firmly by our unique mission—to work through litigation, legislation, and education to secure fundamental rights for nonhuman animals. Together, with your help, we know we’ll continue to make great progress in the fight for nonhuman rights!

In this new year, we’ll press forward in our unrelenting efforts to break through the legal wall that unjustly separates human and nonhuman animals. In 2021, the NhRP will:

  • Urge New York’s highest court to hear Happy’s elephant rights case
  • File new nonhuman rights lawsuits in California and Colorado
  • Assist our international legal working groups in India and Israel with the filing of nonhuman rights lawsuits
  • Work with lawmakers to introduce the world’s first nonhuman rights legislation in a major city in California

To read our full list of 2021 goals, please head to page 37 of our 2020 Annual Report. Our mission and objectives can be found on page 4.

To get the latest NhRP updates, please visit our blog and follow us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn. If you have any questions about our work or would like to discuss how you can support the NhRP in 2021, please do not hesitate to reach out to me anytime at [email protected].

Your support in 2021 will help make nonhuman rights a legal reality.

Thank you,
Mickey Suzuki
