Dear Friend,
Moments ago, we won an important victory before a U.S. District Court and blocked a hateful Trump administration rule that would eviscerate asylum. The rule would make it virtually impossible for all refugees, including those who are LGBTQ or living with HIV, to secure asylum in the United States.
Donate now so we can permanently block this illegal, inhumane, anti-refugee rule.
The rule, set to go into effect on January 11, would eliminate eligibility for anyone with a gender-based claim, and would declare that most refugees should be denied protection because they don’t deserve it. Asylum seekers who are LGBTQ or living with HIV would face insurmountable barriers to asylum in the United States, despite the fact that they have robust asylum claims.
Thanks to today’s win, this cruel and sweeping rule will be halted while the case is being litigated. But our fight is not over.
Even though the Trump administration is leaving this month, this egregious rule cannot be easily reversed by incoming President Biden. It will take the new administration months or years to undo it. And so, it’s up to us, with your support, to end this rule once and for all.
LGBTQ and HIV-positive refugees need us to stand up for them right now, and that is exactly what we will continue to do.
Stand with us by supporting this life-saving work today.
Onwards,
Aaron C. Morris, Executive Director
Immigration Equality
P.S. When the Trump administration leaves office later this month, let’s make sure their worst anti-immigrant rule is gone, too. Give whatever you can to keep our litigation going strong.
