Friend — last week's events have shown the harm Trump is capable of in his final days in office. At LCV, we are calling for his immediate removal — to stop him from doing any more damage.
The unfortunate truth is — even as the country fully processes Trump's actions leading to the siege on the Capitol Building, his administration is still moving forward in its final days in office to enact some of the most harmful policies of the era.
On the afternoon of the attack at the Capitol, news outlets reported the administration had just finalized major lease sales opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling. The further along the leasing process gets, the harder it will be to reverse.
We're asking for your help. At LCV, January marks our annual Membership Drive. It's our most important fundraising effort of the year — it sets up the resources we'll have to fight back against Arctic drilling — and to run environmental campaigns all year long.
If you contribute as part of the campaign, a group of donors will triple match your contribution — and any contribution you make this year. Given the urgency of the moment, we're asking:
If you're in a position to do so, renew your membership for 2021. Right now, all it takes is $5.

In addition, last week's historic victories in Georgia mean that an environmental majority in Congress has the power to undo the provision in the 2017 tax law that required these leases to be sold in the first place. But we need to move quickly.
That won't be an easy fight to win — but it's one we CAN win if the environmental movement pulls together right now. We've already done so much. Led by the indigenous Gwich'in people — whose way of life will be forever changed if drilling is allowed to begin in the Refuge — the environmental movement pressured major banks and oil companies to stay away from these leases.
The next step is to push the Congress to act quickly — and for the Biden administration to use all of its tools to permanently protect the land from exploitation by the oil and gas industry. Friend — it's going to take a historic effort to pull this off. Please, don't sit this one out. Here's where things stand right now:

Friend — the results in Georgia truly change everything. Rev. Raphael Warnock will represent Georgians as the first Black Senator from the state. And having Rev. Warnock and Jon Ossoff in the Senate means we have a slim environmental majority.
That means there's a real shot at passing legislation that will seriously tackle the climate crisis. And it means putting Black, Indigenous, and other communities of color impacted by environmental injustice at the center of the solutions.
I hope you'll pitch in today to help ensure that happens. Remember, as part of our 2021 Membership Drive — if you donate now, your contribution will be triple matched —
as will every gift you make this year.

This is a difficult moment for the country, friend. Thank you for fighting for what's right. Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for everything that you do to fight for environmental justice. We're going to make it through this together.
