Friend,
The last days have seen our democracy shaken by mob violence incited by Donald Trump. But we have also seen the great strength of our institutions as Congress fulfilled the certification of the Electoral College results and confirmed Joe Biden’s victory.
And before the rioting in the U.S. Capitol began, Georgia had once again delivered a major victory to Democrats.
Thanks to the tireless efforts of organizers across Georgia, both my friends Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff were elected to the United States Senate.
Their elections are historic: Rev. Warnock will be the first Black senator from our state, and Ossoff will be the first Jewish senator from our state.
Our state will provide the Democratic Senate majority, and under the Biden-Harris administration, Democratic leaders will finally be able to deliver for the American people.
I’m so proud of Georgia’s grassroots activists and voters. And I’m proud to have done my small part to help as a surrogate for Rev. Warnock.
Georgians participated in our democratic process in record numbers for these runoffs. We must all work together to ensure that participation continues and grows in the coming years. We must work to bring an end to voter suppression in our state.
I believe that we can. And I believe that our democracy will prevail.
Thank you,
Sarah Riggs Amico
