The House of Representatives has just introduced an article of impeachment charging President Donald Trump with "willfully inciting violence against the government of the United States".

The vice president still has the opportunity to put his country first by convening the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment and immediately remove the president from office. But if he is not prepared to act, Congress will.

Donald Trump's unprecedented actions against our Constitution and our democracy cannot stand without consequences. He represents a continuing imminent threat and must be held accountable.

Let me be extremely clear: the president's actions and the 'big lie' that Trump and his enablers have advanced about alleged fraud in our elections are a direct attack on our republic and the stability of our country.
