** Thank you and Happy New Year!
------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Friend,
Happy New Year! 2020 proved to be a difficult year for so many, and we also experienced many challenges at Cultural Survival too. Despite navigating the hardships that come with a global pandemic, our team was able to accomplish so much!

Our success is intertwined with the commitment, generosity, and deep love you, our community, shows us. I am so excited to announce that because of your support we have surpassed our year-end goal and raised $98,653, and still counting! We are so thankful to the 853 generous individuals who donated, as well as those who shared our work and elevated our visibility amongst your friends, family, communities, and networks.

2021 is the International Year of Peace and Trust, the International Year of Creative Economy for Sustainable Development, the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, and the International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour. We recognize the importance of uplifting grassroots Indigenous solutions to conflict resolution, sustainable economies based on Indigenous values, food sovereignty, land stewardship, seed saving, and building the leadership of Indigenous youth, and this is reflected in our programs and emerging organizational strategies.

As Cultural Survival heads into 2021, I want to take this opportunity to share some of our exciting and emerging work that lies ahead. Our plans include:
* Continuing to build Indigenous leadership and capacity internally, and on the ground with our partners.
* Expanding our Indigenous-led grantmaking through our Keepers of the Earth Fund and Community Media Fund, and deepening our leadership in the field of philanthropy.
* Concluding our staff-led, bottom up strategic planning process.
* Rolling out Cultural Survival’s new strategic direction, a holistic, rights-based approach that works on the nexus of land rights, food sovereignty, grassroots Indigenous climate change solutions, Indigenous media and the leadership of Indigenous women and youth.
* Hosting various groundbreaking dialogues and a large, virtual conference that focuses on the intersection of Indigenous languages, biocultural diversity, climate change, Indigenous women, land justice, and food sovereignty.

While so much remains uncertain during a global pandemic, we remain committed to advocating for Indigenous rights and supporting Indigenous communities’ self-determination, cultures, and political resilience. We are deeply grateful for your partnership and look forward to another great year ahead!
Wishing you a healthy, safe, and abundant 2021 and beyond.

In deep gratitude and love,
Galina Angarova (Buryat)
Executive Director
