Donald Trump has failed our nation and the American people. He has undermined our democracy and fomented an insurrection. He is a clear and present danger to the national security of the United States.

Last week, I called on Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Donald Trump from power. That remains the fastest way to end this national nightmare.

But if Pence will not act, then Congress will.

Today, I co-sponsored a resolution by Rep. David Cicilline to impeach the President. And I am prepared to vote to impeach Donald Trump.

The impeachment of a President is no small matter. And it is true that Donald Trump will be gone, rejected by the American people, in just a few days.

But he is an active threat to our republic.

We cannot simply allow a president who defies his oath to bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution to remain in office. He has chosen to put his own ego above the national interest, to put himself above the law.

Donald Trump must be held accountable.
