With medical projects in over 70 countries, our mission is to bring lifesaving care directly to people impacted by conflict, natural disasters, epidemics, and lack of access to vital health resources. But, it’s not enough to just treat patients—we have to speak out about suffering when we see it.

The principle of témoignage, or bearing witness, is at the core of our work. When people are suffering, we make our voices heard. As one of our most dedicated supporters, we know you care about helping vulnerable people and communities wherever the need is greatest.

Will you go a step further and speak out to alleviate suffering, and protect life and health?

Long before the fires in Greece’s Moria refugee camp displaced over 12,000 migrants and asylum seekers last summer, MSF called on Greek health and migration authorities to address the camp’s inhumane conditions. We continue to call on European leaders to end migration policies that trap people in horrific conditions across the Greek islands.

As the years-long conflict in Syria continues to rage, civilians and medical facilities have not been spared—since last January, 80 hospitals have been put out of service due to relentless attacks. We are providing vital medical care and assistance to families uprooted from their homes, but we’ve also spoken out about the dangers facing local medics and the patients who depend on them. Right now we’re calling on the international community to address a widening humanitarian catastrophe as cases of COVID-19 increase in parts of the country.

In March 2020, as our teams were doing everything they could to keep essential services running throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we were also calling on Johnson & Johnson to drop the price of a lifesaving drug to treat tuberculosis (TB), the world’s most deadly infectious disease. Last July the company announced that it would cut the price of the drug, bedaquiline, down to $1.50 per day for certain countries. We will continue to press Johnson & Johnson to offer the lower price to all countries with a high burden of drug-resistant TB, and we are calling on governments to scale up the use of this breakthrough treatment.

Those are just a few examples of the issues we’ve spoken out against last year alone. Because we know that to foster healthy communities, we have to do more than just treat patients—we have to make our voices heard.
