Farewell, but not goodbye Friends, it is with very mixed emotions that I write to tell you that today is my last day as executive director at Treatment Advocacy Center. I will miss my talented colleagues and the important work we do here, which for me has always been a labor of love. Looking back on the last six years that I have been privileged to lead the organization, I am so proud of what this team has accomplished, including the passage of 44 new state laws. Each one of those new laws represent so much hard work by our team and by family members and local advocates like you, changing hearts and minds to ensure a better life for those we care about. I am even more proud of how we have been able to shift the narrative around mental illness to bring Treatment Advocacy Center’s work into the mainstream without ever sacrificing our core principles. It is hard to put into words how different the conversation is today than it was when I first worked at TAC 20 years ago, fresh from law school. While it is hard for me to leave TAC, I am looking forward to starting my new position as director of government relations and strategic initiatives for the National Association for Behavioral Healthcare. This new role will allow me to continue working on some of the aspects of the Treatment Advocacy Center’s mission that are closest to my heart – the need to ensure that our loved ones with severe mental illness have access to a treatment bed, in the most appropriate setting, at the most critical time. I cannot accomplish this alone. The Treatment Advocacy Center staff and hardworking advocates like you will continue to be invaluable partners in seeking to make this vision a reality. We are all in this fight together. I depart today knowing that the organization I care so deeply about, and where I have chosen to spend the bulk of my professional career, is now in the capable hands of my esteemed colleague Lisa Dailey. Lisa and I share the same vision for what TAC can accomplish and the same passion for raising the voices of some of our most overlooked loved ones. During this difficult time, when mental health has never been a more urgent priority for our country, let us continue to go from strength to strength, together. Yours truly, John Snook Thank you for all of your continued support of our work. Please donate today.
