Welcome to Monday, January 11th, Marios and Luigis...

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has issued Vice President Mike Pence an ultimatum: invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump or Democrats will proceed this week with impeaching the president.

"It is the hope of Members that the President will immediately resign. But if he does not, I have instructed the Rules Committee to be prepared to move forward with Congressman Jamie Raskin’s 25th Amendment legislation and a motion for impeachment. Accordingly, the House will preserve every option ― including the 25th Amendment, a motion to impeach or a privileged resolution for impeachment. With great respect, our deliberations will continue.”

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) announced via Twitter that he will join Reps. David Cicilline (D-CT) and Jamie Raskin (D-MD) plus over 180 cosponsors in introducing an article of impeachment against President Donald Trump when the House holds a pro forma session Monday. The article of impeachment will be for "inciting an insurrection at the Capitol."

Meanwhile, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) outlined the timeline for a possible impeachment trial after consulting with the Senate parliamentarian.

It’s unclear when or if the House will vote on articles of impeachment, but the Senate’s current parliamentary posture has an impact on how quickly an impeachment trial could begin in the upper chamber. Without unanimous consent from all senators, the Senate will not be able to begin considering the articles of impeachment until after President Trump’s term ends.

Should the House impeach and try to remove Trump if he doesn’t resign?

Trump Banned From Twitter

Twitter has banned President Donald Trump citing a "risk of further incitement of violence."

"After close review of recent Tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context around them we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement of violence," Twitter said.

"In the context of horrific events this week, we made it clear on Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules would potentially result in this very course of action."

Trump's most recent tweet:

"The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!"

Do you agree with Twitter banning Trump?

Capitol Police Racial Double Standard?

President-elect Joe Biden, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, and a number of other politicians are claiming that there is a double standard in how law enforcement responded to the largely-white mob that stormed the Capitol on Wednesday and Black Lives Matter protesters last year.

As the rioters stormed the Capitol on Wednesday, the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) offered a simple message on Twitter:

“They have killed us for less.”

The largely-white pro-Trump supporters that stormed the Capitol Wednesday were met with light resistance from law enforcement and it was hours before police were able to regain control of the situation. During the siege, President Donald Trump said this to the rioters:

This stands in marked contrast to a scene in June at Lafayette Square, just outside the White House, where federal agents aggressively cleared a pathway through civil rights protestors so Trump could pose with a Bible in front of St. John's Church.

At the time, the president referred to BLM demonstrators as "thugs." And, in reference to the clashes between protesters and police in Minneapolis following George Floyd's death, Trump tweeted: "When the looting starts, the shooting starts."

Do you think there was a racial double-standard in how Capitol police responded to the mob?

And, in the End…
