John,

Last week, we watched in horror as a mob stormed into the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. during a joint session of Congress. Members of the press, legislators, and congressional staff were forced into lockdown as we watched a riot unfold.

These acts of violence should be condemned. These people stormed the Capitol on baseless claims of voter fraud in election results -- claims that have been peddled by the president.

I want to be extremely clear when I say: Acts of violence or destruction -- especially when targeted at law enforcement and members of the press -- are unacceptable. We cannot and will not condone acts like this when they threaten the foundation of our democracy.

The actions we saw this week are unacceptable. During times like this we need to work together instead of letting our differences tear us apart.

Thank you,

Laura
