Dear John,

Take action to demand Congress instill a democracy that works for all.

Last week, American democracy was pushed to the brink. Donald Trump incited right-wing extremists to siege the Capitol. We urgently need democratic reforms to make sure nothing like this attack on a peaceful transition of power ever happens again. Take action to demand Congress make democracy work for all Americans.

Trump and his tyrannical cronies stopped at nothing in their attempts to subvert the will of the voters. And our existing laws weren’t enough to reign him in.

Now is the time to take action. The first step begins with impeaching and removing  Trump for his insurrection. As the new Congress is sworn in, they must go further -- now is the time to build power to fix our democracy.

We’ve seen the danger of anti-democracy extremism. Take action to pass comprehensive reforms to American democracy!

The good news is, the new Congress can act. Progressive leaders in the House of Representatives plan to introduce the For the People Act as one of their first actions in the new Congress.

This once-in-a-generation set of reforms would:

  • Expand and protect voting rights
  • Put the American people ahead of Big Money donors
  • End gerrymandering
  • Hold elected officials to highest ethical standards.

In short, this bill will transform our democracy to be responsive, inclusive, and representative of the will of Americans.

The events of last week shone a light on the fact that the Congress must hold itself -- and other elected officials up and down the ballot -- to higher standards. People deserve a democracy and government that works for each and every citizen.

There is overwhelming support to return power to the hands of everyday Americans like you. Now -- with the memory of Trump’s damage to our electoral system so fresh -- Congress needs to act.

Demand Congress pass the For the People Act for a better democracy!

Americans deserve an accountable government that puts their needs ahead of special interests. The last four years have shown what happens when politicians prioritize corporate and Big Oil interests -- the Arctic Refuge lease sale, COVID relief bail outs for polluters and big corporations, ESA rollbacks.

People across the country voted for change in 2020. But change doesn’t stop at the ballot box. Let Congress know that democracy reform will not be another unanswered campaign compromise.

John, can we count on you to hold this new Congress accountable for an open, honest, dependable democracy?

30,000 signatures still needed: Demand a democracy that works for all Americans.

Standing with you,
Ariel Moger,
