For animals in desperate need, winter’s worst may be yet to come.
Severe weather this winter is leaving neglected “backyard dogs” soaking wet, shivering, and struggling just to make it through the long, bitterly cold nights.
Right now, PETA fieldworkers are delivering custom-built doghouses and bales of straw bedding for insulation to as many animals as they can reach—brightening the lives of lonely dogs, refilling their bowls with fresh food and water, and clearing away the useless plastic shells or decrepit piles of debris that provide them with no escape from the deadly cold.
When a PETA fieldworker finds a dog kept outdoors day in and day out—regardless of extreme weather—they plead with the owner to allow that dog to live safely indoors with the rest of the family. Unfortunately, some owners they encounter refuse to, so our determined fieldworkers then do everything in their power to make that dog’s lonely life a little less miserable.
It only costs $265 to supply a sturdy, straw-filled doghouse for a dog in need, but even a $2 gift can help help us provide more animals with shelter, care, and some relief from a sad life sentence in a pen or on a chain.
