BREAKING: 2020 census will be printed without citizenship question

The fight is not over — Trump issued an Executive Order YESTERDAY to the Census Bureau to collect citizenship data another way. We will not be intimidated by these tactics to scare or undercount our communities. Help us fight back by signing our pledge to get counted.

Trump is relentless in collecting citizenship data, even after the courts told him he had to back down. This agenda is creating confusion and distrust in our communities. Help us ensure that all communities are fairly and accurately represented in the 2020 census »

Friend — Trump is not backing down on his racist tactics to weaponize the census and rig our democracy. But we're not backing down either! We're committed to ensuring a fair and accurate count, especially for immigrant communities and communities of color.

An accurate census count is also crucial for our representative democracy — this data determines apportionment of seats in the U.S. House of Representatives and how district lines are drawn at all levels of government. In addition, the data is used to determine if states are violating the Civil Rights Act in housing, employment, or education.

Two things are certain: There will be a 2020 census, and we must do everything we can to ensure everyone is counted. We've seen the efforts that this administration has taken to minimize, instill fear in, and try to erase immigrants and communities of color from the official record. As immigrant communities and communities of color are among the most impacted by environmental injustice, we should be doing more to protect and amplify all voices in our political process. If our communities aren't fully counted, they could miss out on crucial investments in clean water and an entire region could lose out on a more representative democracy.

This is an all-hands-on-deck moment. The 2020 census data will determine how much federal funding will be allocated toward environmental protection and disaster relief recovery efforts — and an accurate count is necessary. Pledge to get counted today!

Every 10 years, data collected from the census is used to determine how government funds are allocated to fund programs that are crucial to the well-being of our families and communities. These programs include health care, nutrition programs for low-income children, natural disaster prevention and recovery, disaster relief, Section 8 housing, projects to clean up our air and water, and more.

The fight for an accurate count has not been easy. But we've rallied, petitioned, and raised our voices — and the Supreme Court ruled that the addition of this racist and unnecessary question on citizenship status was unconstitutional! Despite this ruling, we know we must remain vigilant — because Trump is not letting up. He knows he lost the fight to get a citizenship question on the 2020 census, but his executive order yesterday signals that he still wants this data. This administration's actions continue to infuse fear in our communities, especially in our immigrant communities.

An accurate census count is incredibly crucial for our future. If we all pledge to get counted for the 2020 census, then we are one step closer to ensuring that our families and communities will receive critical resources and fair representation for the next decade. And we will show that Trump does not scare us.

Pledge to get counted today — our future depends on it »

Thank you for standing up for all communities.
