The upheavals of the last week deeply tested our democracy – but there is a better future on the way, led by a Democratic government.
Thanks to each and every one of you, we elected Georgia's first Black senator, Rev. Raphael Warnock, and the youngest senator in decades, Jon Ossoff.
Whether you donated, volunteered, or just made your friends and family aware of the stakes at play in these crucial runoff elections, we helped organizers – many of them organizers of color – elect an incredibly talented Georgia Senate delegation reflective of the new South.
Together, they restored a Democratic majority in the Senate for the first time since 2014. It’s truly music to my ears - Mitch McConnell will now be the Senate Minority Leader.
The events of this week are a stark reminder of the sheer amount of work that remains to be done rebuilding trust in our damaged government.
But when the Senate reconvenes, thanks to your help, it will be one led by Chuck Schumer – not Mitch McConnell.
Any significant repairs to our ailing republic needed a Democratic Senate – and now we have one. I think that’s something to be hopeful about.
