John,
On Wednesday, we watched Georgia elect its first Black Senator and first Jewish Senator. At the same time, we witnessed an attack on the U.S. Capitol and our democracy. As I tried to process what was happening in our nation’s capital, I turned to something my friend and Green For All founder, Van Jones said, “Breakdowns can lead to breakthroughs if you use them right. Maybe, just maybe, this much disunity can open the door for unity.”
While 2020 was a challenging year, there were so many bright spots thanks to supporters like you.
After months of sending messages, joining virtual town halls and rallies, writing letters to the editor, making calls, and tweeting at Congress, together, we helped secure $14 BILLION in relief for #SafeTransit. This win is the first step to keep workers and our economy moving safely.
You motivated friends and family to show up in historic numbers to vote for justice by participating in our voter turnout campaign. Together, we texted over 16,000 voters.
Our 2+ years of work to ensure the Transportation and Climate Initiative actually protects and prioritizes communities hit first and worst by poverty, pollution, and COVID-19 reached a critical point. The final agreement signed by three states and Washington D.C. includes 35% dedicated investments, impacted communities at the decision-making table, and air quality reporting: [link removed]
After the election was called, we immediately jumped into action and sent a letter to the incoming Biden-Harris administration with 10 actions the new administration can do to boost the economy and cut pollution: [link removed]
In 2021, we’re doubling down on our commitment to address three key areas: the economic crisis, the climate crisis, and the racial justice crisis. It has never been more urgent to seek focus on those hurt first and worst. The federal government is poised to invest trillions of dollars in rebuilding the economy. We can put people back to work, building a more sustainable economy that can curb climate change and build a better future for all.
That’s why in 2021, Green For All will:
Usher in a new era of unity, turning political breakdown into a breakthrough. We’re creating a bottoms-up bipartisanship that brings people across the political spectrum together to advance common ground solutions that center struggling Americans and communities most impacted by the pollution-based economy;
Drive billions of dollars into clean economy projects in neighborhoods that need it most. We will work to shape federal stimulus and infrastructure legislation to cut pollution and invest in good jobs and wealth-building opportunities for Black and Brown-owned businesses; and
Equip policymakers across the country to be better on climate justice. We will develop tools and educate policymakers the “how-tos” of designing fair and just clean transportation policies that can accelerate a pollution-free future while helping people reach jobs, healthcare, and education more efficiently and affordably.
