On Wednesday, the country watched in horror as terrorists overtook our Capitol building. The scene that unfolded was a direct result of incitement from Donald Trump and his enablers.

Trump's encouragement of violent takeover is undemocratic and fundamentally un-American. It doesn't matter how much time is left for Trump's term. The sitting U.S. president cannot incite an attack on our seat of government without facing consequences.

American democracy was designed to be stronger than one man or his words. Congress proved that by voting to certify Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' victory. Many of Trump's enablers may have condemned the violence, but they will not denounce the president who incited it.
