Dear John,
Trump has just begun the last phase of his destructive rush to open the sacred
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling. Chip in now and protect the Arctic Refuge from this existential threat.

$25 an acre. That was the starting bid price for over 10,000 years of pristine,
incomparable wilderness.
Trump and Big Oil’s goal is to turn the entire region into a fossil fuel
wasteland -- a blow to the Arctic, and to our climate, from which there would be
no recovery. This is a last-minute push by the administration to attack our
public lands, trample Indigenous rights, and lock in unthinkable destruction and
irreversible climate change while they still hold power. And it’s all for the
sake of corporate greed, and yet another payday to the wealthiest industry on
the planet.
This is how nature dies -- how priceless landscapes and irreplaceable species
are lost forever. We’ve seen it before. We don’t have to let it happen this
time.
Help stop the Trump administration’s latest scheme to turn the Arctic Refuge
into a fossil fuel wasteland -- rush a $27 donation to Friends of the Earth
today.

[[link removed]]The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, also called the American Serengeti, is a
treasure. The abundance and variety of rare wildlife it carries can’t be found
anywhere else on Earth. Its 19.3 millions acres of coastal lands, boreal forests
and alpine tundra are pristine habitat for all three North American bear
species, wolves, moose, caribou, musk oxen, Arctic foxes, eagles, and more.
Hundreds of bird species migrate from all 50 states to spend their summers in
Refuge breeding grounds.
Nowhere else can you witness sights like iconic polar bears denning alongside
the earth-shaking annual migration of the Porcupine Caribou Herd, which sustains
the communities and way of life for the Indigenous Gwich’in and Iñupiat people.
The Refuge is one of the finest intact wilderness landscapes left on Earth. For
these indigenous communities, it has been sacred since time immemorial.
We must protect the Arctic at all costs. Chip in $27 to Friends of the Earth
here.

[[link removed]]For decades, Big Oil and Gas and their friends in Congress have tried to open
the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge to unregulated, unrestricted oil and gas
development.
Trump’s latest and last-ditch attack on the Arctic Refuge violates the rights of
Indigenous people, threatens iconic wildlife like endangered polar bears, and
locks in catastrophic global climate change impacts in one of the most sensitive
and vulnerable ecosystems in the world.
Here’s what we are doing about it:
Taking them to court
* Congress and the Trump administration have taken illegal actions to
fast-track lease sales and the start of drilling. At Friends of the Earth,
we’re opposing every single lease sale, one by one. We also filed a lawsuit
to block the leasing program completely and stop all new attempts at drilling
in the Arctic Refuge.
Fighting for permanent protections
* We’re advancing national legislation to permanently protect the refuge for
generations to come. And, we are working in solidarity with Indigenous
communities to affirm and safeguard their connection with this land. We’ll do
this at every level, from the grassroots pressuring the Biden Administration.
Together, we will end the threat of drilling once and for all.
John, this work is hard. Exhausting. I’ll admit it:
Sometimes I slip into despair. But these recent victories, and the incredible
legacy over years at Friends of the Earth, remind me that when we combine smart
organizing and people power, we win. Thanks to supporters like you, I am
reminded of our power over and over again.
We have a plan to save the Arctic Refuge, and the momentum is shifting in our
favor. But we can’t afford to let up now, and we can’t win without grassroots
support.
Please power our work to protect the Arctic, and all public lands, forever.
