John, I wanted to
check in with you in regards to this week’s domestic terrorism attack on
the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.
My staff and I are safe—albeit shaken—after sheltering in a barricaded
office for six hours after the violent mob entered the Capitol.
Afterwards, I was able to join my colleagues until the early hours of the
morning to finish our duty of certifying Joe Biden’s election.
But John, our work
is not done there.
I want to be very clear: this attack was incited by President Trump. And
Congress has some serious work to do in order to provide accountability
and guarantee that this never, ever happens again.
Here’s how we do that:
* The House Oversight Committee must conduct a full investigation of the
violent, unlawful events that took place. The American people have a
right to know about what exactly happened, why government agencies
failed to coordinate, and why Capitol police were not prepared.
* The president must be removed from office immediately. If not through
the 25th amendment, then through swift impeachment and removal
proceedings. He is an imminent danger to our democracy, and we cannot
wait until Joe Biden’s inauguration to try to put this all behind us.
I have signed on as a cosponsor of articles of impeachment drafted by my
colleagues in Congress. [ [link removed] ]John,
add your name now to join me in demanding
that President Trump is immediately removed from office, and that Congress
conducts a full investigation of the violent domestic terrorism attack
that he incited.
