Dear,
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is “considering” an impeachment vote for the middle of next week.(1)
Wednesday’s insurrection was one of the lowest points in presidential history. We can’t afford to be “considering” possible future action.
Reps. Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush, Ayanna Pressley, and others are making a strong stand for our democracy right now, refusing to let Donald Trump’s treason pass. They need our political will behind them, and we are going to stand up, too.
Will you donate to help pressure Congress to hold everyone responsible for Wednesday’s insurrection accountable?
Hundreds of Trump followers broke into the seat of our democracy, smashing windows, vandalizing private offices, and interrupting the vote to approve the Electoral College — and they were allowed to do it. As Joe Biden, Rep. Karen Bass, and others pointed out, there is no way that Black Lives Matter protesters would have been treated with such deference.(2)
Worse, 147 members of Congress still voted to challenge the election results, even after seeing the consequences of lying to the public about voter fraud.(3)
Words matter. Rhetoric matters. And our system of equity and justice depends on people being held accountable for their actions.
We are calling on Congress to launch an investigation into how the Capitol was breached and how Trump was involved. And we’re planning a longer-term campaign holding the representatives who betrayed our democracy and got us to this point accountable. Will you donate?
Yes, I’ll donate to hold those responsible for Wednesday’s insurrection accountable.
Yours in the fight for our democracy,
Irene, along with Angela, Annie, Caitlin, Deepthi, Gabby, Jay, Lindsay, Molly, Raquel, and Scottie (the Courage team)
