Yesterday, Betsy DeVos finally resigned from her role as the U.S. Secretary of Education.
As you can probably guess, we aren't sad to see her go. Betsy DeVos has never cared about students or educators, and she's never done her job to help our public schools. She's made jokes about free lunch at the expense of kids going hungry and rolled back protections for survivors of sexual assault with Title IX.
She has absolutely no track record of standing up for what's right — so it's not surprising that she'd quit her job rather than invoke the 25th Amendment to get Donald Trump out of office.
Betsy DeVos was the worst Secretary of Education our country has ever seen, and the damage she's inflicted on our nation's education system is enormous. That's why Jamaal is working on legislation that begins to undo some of this damage, and use his position in the House Committee on Education and Labor to make sure that no future Secretary of Education ruins our nation's education system as much as Betsy DeVos did.
Not having to worry about fundraising or call time will give Jamaal the room to focus on his job entirely and fight for us. But we need our online fundraising — from emails just like this one — to keep pace with our goals.
The events of this week have made the damage that the Trump administration has brought upon our nation more clear than it's ever been. With a new administration on the horizon, there's a lot of work that lies ahead for our progressive agenda. Thank you for being in this fight with us.
