We are winning on equity! With the results officially in, we must take a moment to recognize and celebrate the historic election that took place in Georgia this week, sending the state's first Black Senator to Congress and shifting control in the chamber.

Despite efforts to distract and destroy our democracy, we remain squarely focused on the brilliance of organizers in Georgia whose hard work, dedication, and strategy have paved the way for our movements to win on equity. Muting the broken record, “What about white voters being left behind?” Georgia organizers doubled down their focus on Black voters and other communities of color. They didn’t center whiteness, they centered collective liberation. Their work will improve outcomes for us all — this is the work of equity.

The wins in Georgia did not happen overnight. Despite often being underfunded and disregarded, organizers in Georgia, particularly Black women, have been working tirelessly for many years to achieve these victories. Leaders like Nsé Ufot of the New Georgia Project

, and the countless organizers whose names we may never know have been a driving force registering and engaging the new American majority. They have demonstrated what movement leaders have long understood — change happens when we invest in people power.

Now it’s our turn to invest in people power — not just today, but for the long term. As we have witnessed, the fight is far from over. We must turn our attention to winning future local, state, and federal elections and ensuring that everyone can participate in our democracy. Begin today by contributing to one of the incredible organizations named above. Invest in organizations that are protecting democracy in your local community. Sign up to engage voters in your next local election. There are opportunities everywhere to build power in your community.

We will not allow white supremacy to weaken our emerging multi-racial democracy. People of color are the nation's liberation and we will continue to forge a path to a nation where all can participate, prosper, and reach their full potential.

In Solidarity,

Michael McAfee
